Filter Technology Australia wish to thank all visitors to our stand at Mining Indonesia from 14th Oct to 17th October 2009.

The response was extremely encouraging and the single most prominent issue was directly related to contaminated fuel, particularly with late model fuel injection engines (EURO 3).

Filter Technology Australia’s knife edge depth filtration has proven time and time again that it has the capability of overcoming serious fuel contamination issues in some of the harshest environments in the world.

Komatsu 830E wheel motor synthetic gear oil - 5000 hours plus!

The FM40210 system fitted inside rear axle box

Samples taken over a 24 week period show consistently low levels of particle contamination.

Wheel motors in large dump trucks work incredibly hard, in hot and dusty conditions and for long hours. In this kind of environment, gear oil in wheel motors is typically changed every 2000 hours.

Filter Technology Australia fitted an FM40210 twin on-board kidney loop filtration system to the rear wheel motors on a Komatsu 830E dump truck operating at an open cut coal mine in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

The filtration system is located inside the axle box and consists of four FM2100 elements, two electrically operated pumps, pressure gauges and sample points.

After fitting the system, the ISO 680 synthetic gear oil was continually monitored at various intervals to check for wear rates, particular contamination and ISO cleanliness.

Filter elements were changed at intervals varying from 400 to 1200 hours.

After more than 5000 hours, the gear oil in the wheel motor circuit was still incredibly clean and well inside the ISO standards required.

Filter Technology Australia appoints agent for China

Filter Technology Australia has appointed Wadam Industries, a subsidiary of Industrea Limited, as the exclusive agent to distribute Filter Technology products throughout China and Mongolia for the next three years.

Global mining products and services provider Industrea is already well credentialled throughout China, and has become the supplier of choice for many Chinese mining operations.

"We are delighted to add these innovative Australian-made filtration systems to our suite of products" said Industrea Managing Director and CEO, Robin Levison. “This technology will also open the door to new industry sectors for Industrea, allowing us to further leverage the investment in our Chinese product support centre established earlier this year.”

With the Chinese economy still remarkably buoyant, with a world-leading 8.9% growth in the September 09 quarter, mining operations have increased production to meet demand. Major Chinese coal producer China Shenhua Energy Company has already increased coal production by 9.5% in response to a growing need for energy.

Filter Technology Australia products are a perfect fit for Industrea's operations in China. With the demand for uninterrupted productivity, FTA's filtration products have been proven to greatly reduce particle contamination levels across a wide range of applications including engines, hydraulics, gearboxes, final drives and fuel systems, resulting in fewer stoppages for OEM filter changes, more efficient fuel burn and less downtime resulting from contamination-caused breakdown.

Brian Bondi, Filter Technology Australia Managing Director, was confident that Industrea's leading market position in China would result in rapid product rollout. "FTA considers China to be crucial for the company's long-term success. Industrea is used to working with the most advanced products in their field and we see them as the perfect partner".

Cleaner fuel boosts Equatorial Guinea mining operations

Filter Technology Australia’s knife edge depth filtration has proven time and time again that it has the capability of overcoming serious fuel contamination issues in some of the harshest working environments.

The problems of contaminated diesel fuel were drastically affecting mining operations in Equatorial Guinea. During various stages of transportation, storage and transfer, fuel stocks were becoming increasingly contaminated. The equipment at this operation was mainly late model mining equipment and the issue of contaminated fuel, which included water as well as large amounts of particulate, was a daily problem.

After installing a Filter Technology FM2440 filter system, the problem has been solved. Contaminated fuel is stored and directed through the FTA filter system, before being pumped directly to the refuelling trucks. The system comprises of 24 filter housings providing the ability to transfer fuel at 1,000 litres per minute at 3 bar.
